  • Author: caroline_hicks
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick and delicious weeknight dinner featuring tender shrimp coated in a sticky, sweet, and savory honey garlic glaze, served over rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large or extra-large shrimp, thawed and patted dry
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 45 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Jasmine rice, cooked
  • Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, cornstarch, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes until the cornstarch is fully dissolved.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Season shrimp lightly with salt and pepper. Add shrimp to the pan in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until pink. Remove shrimp from the pan and set aside.
  4. Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the same skillet. Pour in the sauce mixture and stir constantly for 2-3 minutes until it thickens into a glossy glaze.
  5. Return the shrimp to the pan and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute to finish cooking.
  6. Serve immediately over warm jasmine rice, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

Ensure shrimp are completely dry before cooking to promote browning. Do not overcrowd the pan when searing shrimp. Adjust red pepper flakes based on spice preference. For a gluten-free version, substitute soy sauce with tamari. For a dairy-free version, use olive oil instead of butter.
