Copycat DQ Banana Milkshake: Perfect Crisp Homemade Recipe

  • Author: caroline_hicks
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A thick, creamy, and nostalgic homemade banana milkshake that replicates the Dairy Queen experience using simple ingredients like vanilla ice cream, ripe bananas, and milk.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 to 3 cups Vanilla Ice Cream (high-quality vanilla bean recommended)
  • 2 medium Ripe Bananas (spotted yellow with brown spots)
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup Whole Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar (Optional, if bananas are not sweet enough)
  • Ice cubes (Optional, for extra coldness)

Instructions

  1. Peel two medium bananas and slice them into rounds. Place half of the slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes. Keep the other half fresh.
  2. Remove the vanilla ice cream from the freezer and let it sit on the counter for about 5 minutes until soft enough to scoop but not melted.
  3. Add the softened ice cream, fresh banana slices, frozen banana slices, whole milk (start with 1/2 cup), and vanilla extract to a blender.
  4. Pulse the blender a few times to break up the ice cream, then blend on high speed for 30-60 seconds until smooth and thick. Stop and scrape down sides if needed. Do not overblend.
  5. Taste the shake and adjust consistency: add more milk if too thick, or more frozen bananas/ice cream if too thin.
  6. Pour immediately into a chilled tall glass. Top with whipped cream and a banana slice if desired. Serve with a wide straw.

Notes

For the best texture, use half frozen and half fresh bananas. Chill your glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving to keep the shake cold longer. Clean the blender immediately after use with warm water and soap to prevent ice cream from hardening in the blades.
